Does the gender of a person determine what sports people are interested in? A Research Assignment conducted by Tayla Selfe & Ella Hinch

Hypothesis If a person’s gender is female they will be most likely to choose netball and if a person’s gender is male he will be most likely to choose rugby league.

Scientific Information/surveys Download data xls sample file: cas_sample_ xls Download data variables sheet: 2014_Variables_List.pdf We collected our data by using the websites above while also surveying our class mates on what their favourite sport. Our sample size was 44 receiving information from the computer and our class mates

Bar Graph of our Findings

Bar graph This bar graph shows that boy’s (red bar) most popular sport was soccer due to the bar being the longest compared to the rest of the red bars. Also shows that the girl’s favourite sport was other due to its bar ( blue bar ) being the longest of all the other blue bars.

Table of findings sportfemalemale NETBALL60 AFL03 SOCCER110 RUGBY35 SWIMMING51 OTHER73

Table of Findings This table demonstrates that the most popular boys sport was soccer due to soccer having the most amount of votes. While the girls most popular sport was Other due to it having the most amount of votes as well.

End Result If a person’s gender is female they will be most likely to choose netball and if a person’s gender is male he will be most likely to choose rugby league. The Hypothesis was proven incorrect, this was because we didn’t take into consideration of other majorly popular sports such as soccer which was our most popular boy sport and other (sports not listed) which was the girls most popular sport. However netball was only chosen by 27% of females and AFL was only chosen by 14% of the boys.
