WWi a-z poetry book WWI Final Assessment Project Due: TUESDAY April 30 th (you have 29 days)

Wwi a-z poetry book directions Each letter (26 different poems) will correspond to a person, place, thing, or event that helped shape the war. An example might be “Allied Powers” for the letter “A” or “Zeppelin” for “Z”. Each entry will include a Label (type of poem) title, picture, and a poem that is about topics related to World War I or the Causes of WWI. Examples of approved poems include: Free verse- no rhyme, at least three stanzas (Stanzas are a minimum of 2 lines) Flowing Acrostic- six letter words or more, and must have more than one word per line Haiku- rhyming scheme of syllables (best as can about the topic) Concrete Poem- shape of poem expresses the meaning of poem Cinquain- 5 line poem, each line has assigned number of words & parts of speech. Noun, two adj. with an –ing endings, a phrase, another name for the noun Diamante- 7 lines, the poem forms the shape of a diamond “I am” Poem – at least 4 stanzas (2 lines each) each beginning with “I am” Limerick (see examples on the back of your blue paper) Alphabet (see examples on the back of your blue paper) ***YOU MUST LABEL THE TYPE OF EACH POEM*** YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE EXAMPLE OF EACH POEM AND NO MORE THAN FIVE OF ANY ONE TYPE. Stanzas are a minimum of two lines!

Things To Include: Use a Cover/Title page or that includes a title, your name, period, and the date. No more than two entries per page Pictures may be hand drawn or downloaded from the internet. Don’t use clip art. These pictures are generic and not appropriate for your book. An important reminder is that plagiarism is not allowed! “Cut and paste” techniques from the web are not welcome Plagiarism will result in a score of 0%! Some time will be given in class to research material, and write poems but expect to use time at home for assembly of the final product. Resources for your book include books, encyclopedias, magazines and the internet. Some Quality websites are listed All poems must be typed in a readable font no larger than 18 points. The capital letter may be in a large, “fun” font to highlight the word. Conventions, creativity, and neatness are factors in grading! Remember to be WWI specific. “N” shouldn’t be for nuclear weapons – they weren’t invented yet.

KEYS TO SUCCESS Warm Ups – most days you will be able to work on your A-Z Book during Warm-Ups I will provide you with in class time to get a jump start You will be able to work on your A-Z Books during AIMS Week (extra time when you finish and in my class) Use your “First Draft Journal” and A-Z Chart to plan If you average one poem a day in class and one at home (2 a day) you will finish in plenty of time!
