Welcome To AVID! Your Name Childs Name School Currently Attending School Planning to Attend in or Phone Number Please fill out an index card… We are giving away a door prize!!!!

What do we do in AVID? Cornell notes Organize binders Tutorials Teambuilding Reading Strategies Writing Process Socratic Discussion Skilled Questioning College/Career Research Field trips to colleges

How does AVID help us? improve social skills get organized manage our academic and personal time develop a personal note-taking language get help during tutorial get better grades think about the future

How do you get in AVID. You fill out an application You have to be interviewed. A team of teachers, administrators, and counselors select the new AVID scholars. We look at prior grades, test scores and behavior in addition to your interview.

When can you join AVID? Deadline for Applications is November 19th Once the application is received, we will arrange a visit to your childs school and conduct the AVID interview (likely to take place in Jan/Feb).

What are the standards to get into AVID? You have to want go to college. Enrolled in at least one advanced class Grade point 2.0 to 3.5 Willing to do work. A leader in the school. A good attendance record. If you are the 1 st generation in your family to go to college you have a better chance.

IS IT WORTH IT? We give you TONS of strategies to help you succeed!!!!! It makes your chances of getting accepted into a 4 year college a lot better It helps you succeed in high school and in college It helps you get an idea for a good career And its a lot of fun!
