E-learning awareness in Slovakia

Description of the educational and training system in Slovakia The educational system as defined by the current Slovak legislation includes the following levels of education: 1. pre-primary education 2. primary and lower secondary education 3. secondary general and vocational/technical education 4. higher (tertiary) education 5. education of adults E-learning as a concept is relevant to all the above levels with the possible exception of pre-primary education.

The beginning of e-learning in Slovakia In 1999 Slovak schools, the Ministry of Education and regional authorities involved in the implementation of ICT in schools, in partnership with the private sector (companies Nextra and Telenor Slovakia) - pilot projects as Infovek or project EUNIS-SK created under an agreement with Microsoft - supply of MS Windows and MS Office. In 1999 Slovak schools, the Ministry of Education and regional authorities involved in the implementation of ICT in schools, in partnership with the private sector (companies Nextra and Telenor Slovakia) - pilot projects as Infovek or project EUNIS-SK created under an agreement with Microsoft - supply of MS Windows and MS Office. But it turned out that these actions were insufficient and it was necessary to implement the enabling technologies that would make available multi- media supported learning.

Currently, the increasingly common part of Slovak schools is the school web page Web pages provide information on the number of students, school location, student achievements and goals. Many schools, use their website for placement of educational materials by theachers to students, whether for self- study or as a support to the class education, respectively e-learning courses for students. Comparison – active e-learning on school website

educational materials on the webpage should be used: to support the teaching of individual subjects, to support the teaching of individual subjects, to extend the knowledge of individual subjects for students for whom the normal range of education is insufficient and who are interested to acquire additional knowledge, to extend the knowledge of individual subjects for students for whom the normal range of education is insufficient and who are interested to acquire additional knowledge, to enrich everyday teaching - a form of student motivation. to enrich everyday teaching - a form of student motivation.

Today's learning management systems in Slovakia wide synchronous learning opportunities - direct contact with other students and teacher, such as conferences, chat, virtual classrooms, sharing application... combination with asynchronous learning – not "face to face" communication between teacher and students, student can paced himself

Three-layer model of e-learning The first layer – to mediate in the presentation and distribution of relevant information to students, available at that time and the desired location Creation of electronic education content is not just a simple mechanical transfer of texts into web pages and their eventual layout. The teacher becomes the creator of the educational documents with specific mission – to transform quality of full-time study into compiled documents in electronic form using all forms of presentation

Three-layer model of e-learning The second layer – to provide interactivity between students and lecturers / tutors of the course, or other components participating in this process communication between students and teachers, for example via , chat, discussion forums, etc...

Three-layer model of e-learning The third layer – Learning Management System (LMS) LMS allows the storage and presentation of information, but also monitoring of its progress and results, including comprehensive admin support.

Awarenes of e-learning The issue of e-learning recognize majority of school staff in Slovakia Teachers and students interested in e- learning in education

Awarenes of e-learning In most cases learning system incline to the partial solutions not comprehensive and systematic solution lack of money lack of money lack of "e-professionals„ - teachers lack of "e-professionals„ - teachers

Different views on the degree of electronization Although we have access to the Internet and databases, although there are electronic textbooks, test systems, web- portals with instructions for teaching the course and different data of subjects and so on., it is still only a fraction of what the e-learning provides. Different views on the degree of electronization todays e-learning activities in Slovakia are only a supplement to conventional teaching as we know it in the form of lectures, exercises or seminars. In this sense we are talking only about new designed textbooks published in electronic form. But the way of teaching remains the same. Despite the fact we think we do e- learning. todays e-learning activities in Slovakia are only a supplement to conventional teaching as we know it in the form of lectures, exercises or seminars.
