Wireless Printer Setup WPS Used to automatically configure printers for Wireless operation Requires WPS compatibility on Printer and Access Point Operation –PIN method –Push-button method –USB method

WPS Setup PIN Method PIN Method, in which a personal identification number (PIN) has to be read from either a sticker or the display on the new wireless device. This PIN must then be entered at the "representant" of the network, usually the access point of the network. Alternately, a PIN on the Access Point may be entered into the new device. The PIN Method is the mandatory baseline mode; every Wi-Fi Protected Setup certified product must support it.personal identification numberwireless deviceaccess point

PIN Method Security Issue In December 2011, researcher Stefan Viehböck reported a design and implementation flaw that makes brute-force attacks against PIN-based WPS feasible to perform on WPS-enabled Wi-Fi networks. A successful attack on WPS allows unauthorized parties to gain access to the network. The only effective workaround is to disable WPS. [4]brute-force attacks [4]

WPS Push-button method –Press WPS button on Printer –Within 2 minutes press the WPS button on your access point. –

WPS USB Method USB Method, in which the user uses a USB flash drive to transfer data between the new client device and the access point of the network. Support of this mode is optional, but deprecatedUSB flash drive

Wireless Distribution System WDS A wireless distribution system (WDS) is a system enabling the wireless interconnection of access points in an IEEE network. It allows a wireless network to be expanded using multiple access points without the traditional requirement for a wired backbone to link them. The notable advantage of WDS over other solutions is it preserves the MAC addresses of client frames across links between access points. [access pointsIEEE MAC addresses [

WDS Performance The maximum wireless effective throughput may be halved after the first retransmission (hop) being made. For example, in the case of two APs connected via WDS, and communication is made between a computer which is plugged into the Ethernet port of AP 1 and a laptop which is connected wirelessly to AP 2. The throughput is halved, because AP 2 has to retransmit the information during the communication of the two sides

WDS Ethernet Bridge Performance In the case of communications between a computer which is plugged into the Ethernet port of AP 1 and a computer which is plugged into the Ethernet port of AP 2, the throughput is not halved since there is no need to retransmit the information. Dual band/radio APs may avoid this problem, by connecting to clients on one band/radio, and making a WDS network link with the other.
