“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” Mr. Brink Gardner, Managing Director and Principal Shareholder, Blake Hall College, London.

“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” HE Institutions needs to adapt Industry Operators needs to assist with the adaption process This will only become a real and powerful dynamic once this has happened and it’s reached its full potential. NO lip service! Private HE Institutions will lead the way! More adaptable Move faster etc Profit focused

“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” Graduate unemployment levels on a par with school leavers Latest data shows 25% of 21-year-olds who left university with a degree in 2011 were unemployed compared with 26% of 16-year-olds with GCSEs (guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 22 February 2012 )guardian.co.uk University of the future.....Ernest &Young Report on Aus Uni’s “A thousand year old industry on the cusp of profound change” Business models MUST change! Future: A One Year University instead of Four Years? The aim of the “The One Year University” debate program is to produce a paradigm shift in university education, by contracting among others the typical four year university study to ONE year. In essence, this is about defining the futuristic university. (Dr. Stephen M. Sweid) Students 'flocking to e-learning' An Aus university has revealed that there has been a significant upturn in the number of students taking up e-learning courses. Melbourne University in Australia has announced the number of enrolments on its online courses is now higher than the amount of people signing up to campus-based education, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. ( Sydney Morning Herald 5 November 2012)

“ Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” Governments (worldwide) cannot fund the increased demand for HE Education at publically funded Universities especially in the emerging economies! Demand for places outstrips the supply in many Countries Economic realities limits choice of HE institutions Many graduates find that they are not employable due to a lack of relevant experience (vocational focus required ) UK Degrees are still very desirable, Internationally ( British Council survey ) Private HE’s, in partnership with UK ( and other ) Uni’s,can to a large extent fill this void that is developing fast (conduit) Private HE Institutions can act as the ideal “partners” to Universities in affording more students the opportunity to get a UK degree at a more affordable price.

“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” This boils down to what are the benefits to be derived, mutually from validating BHC with this degree opportunity at their College? To the University Growing their revenue stream Accessing a market that they might otherwise not have been able to access ( lower course fees on offer ) etc To the College Unique opportunity to grow it’s opportunity to serve as a “conduit” between the University and the International student the International student the opportunity of getting a more affordable UK degree. Sell the benefits ! Sell them the sizzle not the stake! Relationships are built on mutuality....WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME? What could developing meaningful synergies mean for a UK HE provider in the case of Mauritius Hence Middlesex establishing themselves here Industry Operators ( the customers ) It has been recognised internationally that HE Institutions should be delivering a more rounded and employable graduate

“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” The Blake Hall College story How did we start working towards developing meaningful Realised form the outset..a “conduit” Affordability Accessibility What have we done to start working towards setting up meaningful synergies with the Industry Operators 1.Location...London 2.Infrastructure 3.Modular Qualifications ( PgD in Innovative and Creative Leadership ) 4.Course in starting your own business by way of a Franchise

“Developing meaningful synergies between higher educational institutions and industry operators” Conclusion I am more convinced than ever before that HE sector and industry Operators should come together in a spirit of mutuality and let go of preconceived ideas and discover synergies, that will have very significant long term benefits for all parties concerned The Uni, The College and certainly the student ( who after all is the primary focus of all our effort and endeavours)

“Developing meaningful synergies between Higher Educational Institutions and Industry Operators” For those HE Institutions that takes this to heart and respond to it, will find that not only will they produce an intellectually strong student upon completion, but also more importantly a more employable graduate. The times in which we find ourselves requires a serious
