Networking 8 | Networking | Powerline The Powerline Advantage | By simply connecting two or more Powerline Adapters to Electrical Sockets in your Home any Network Devices with an RJ45 Ethernet Port can be connected to each other. Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Powerline is totally safe and uses very minimal amounts of Power. Our existing solution can support up to 16 Adapters on one Network simultaneously. Our Adapters adopt the relevant HomePlug Standards (HomePlug 1.0 for Turbo and HomePlug AV) meaning they are compatible with other Manufacturers Adapters that use the same Standard. Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup No Technical Knowledge required Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup No Technical Knowledge required Capable of reaching areas often inaccessible by Wireless Networks Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup No Technical Knowledge required Capable of reaching areas often inaccessible by Wireless Networks No need to run long lengths of Cat 5 Cabling Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup No Technical Knowledge required Capable of reaching areas often inaccessible by Wireless Networks No need to run long lengths of Cat 5 Cabling No distance issues Powerline offers many benefits over other types of Networking both Wired and Wireless; Easy to setup No Technical Knowledge required Capable of reaching areas often inaccessible by Wireless Networks No need to run long lengths of Cat 5 Cabling No distance issues Not open to Radio Frequency Interference

Networking 11 | Networking | Powerline Frequently Asked Questions | Are Powerline Turbo and Powerline AV compatible with one another? No, although Powerline Turbo and AV Adapters can exist on the same Electrical Circuit they cannot communicate directly with each other due to different Modulation methods. However, If a Router is used as a Central Point and Adapters of each type are going into the Router, then Devices connected to Turbo and AV Adapters can belong to the same Network. How many Powerline Adapters can be used in the same building? Up to 16 Powerline Adapters of each Adapter Type can operate in the same Building simultaneously. Can the Powerline Adapters be used on different floors of the same building? Yes, our Powerline Adapters are capable of communicating across up to 3 Electrical Phases, meaning they should be suitable for any Private Residence or Small Office. The Communication should stop with the Circuit Breakers that act as the meeting point between external Mains and the internal Building Circuits, so no Communication should be possible between Buildings. If in doubt the default Encryption Key used by the Powerline Adapters could always be altered.

Slide Number 12 Confidential property of Belkin International. Unlawful to copy or reproduce in any manner without the express written consent of Belkin International. Networking 12 | Networking | Powerline Frequently Asked Questions | How does the Encryption work? The Turbo Powerline Adapters use 56-bit DES Encryption to ensure Data Security, whilst the Powerline AV Adapters use 128-bit AES Encryption. In both cases there is a default Encryption Key which is used. Do I have to use the CD provided? No, the Hardware Installation is a CD-less setup. The CD, which simply contains a copy of the Multilingual Manual and the Belkin HomePlug Utility (F5D4071), would only need to be used should you wish to change the default Encryption Key at any stage. Will the Powerline Adapters work via Surge Protectors? Whilst the Powerline Adapters will still work via Surge Protectors, performance is dramatically affected so we would not recommend such usage. This is due to the Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference Filtering found within standard Surge Protectors, essentially the Powerline Communication is also being partly filtered. The Turbo Powerline Adapters allow you to change the default Encryption Key by using the ‘Belkin HomePlug Utility’ supplied on the CD. The AV Powerline Adapters however, offer a Push-Button Security feature that allows you to assign a new random Encryption Key to all your units. Simply push the button on one unit to Broadcast the new Key, and then the button on all other Units within 2 minutes for them to associate with this new Key.

Networking 13 | Networking | Powerline Future Of Powerline | Belkin seems committed to developing the Powerline Range and are already working on improved enclosures for the current Range. It is also thought that we are likely to see Powerline incorporated into at least one Surge Protection Product as well as the release of a Powerline Access Point potentially.
