Floor Hardeners

Traditional Ironite Flooring System 12 mm Ironite top finish 38 mm M 20 PCC 150 mm M 15 RCC Sub grade PCC

FLOOR HARDNERS A powder material which is a combination of high strength cement, hard aggregates and chemicals used for providing an integral floor finish to provide better abrasion and impact resistance compared to plain cured concrete.

FLOORING

Disadvantages of Ironite flooring Ironite flooring, generally have a tendency to ‘curl’ at the panel joints due to the following reasons: Normally the water-cement ratio is high to achieve flowability of the mix Higher water content results in excessive evaporation of water from the top surface leading to displacement of iron particles ( due to its weight ) to the bottom surface Consequently this results in fine cement particles being carried to the top causing excessive shrinkage at the top compared to the bottom. This leads to stresses causing the floor slab to curl at the joints The resultant forces lead to de-bonding of ‘wearing course’ from the sub-grade

12 mm Ironite top finish 38 mm M 20 PCC 150 mm M 15 RCC Sub grade Debonding

Elimination / reduction of de-bonding is possible by adoption of following best engineering practices: Keep water-cement ratio as low as practicable. Start floating the surface after excess water is evaporated to prevent cement fines being carried to the top surface. Lay the wearing course within 48 hours of laying the sub-grade. If this is not practicable, use moisture insensitive epoxy bonding compound ( Corecoat EP) before laying the IPS. Use dry shake floor hardener( Coreflor STD or HD) instead of ‘Ironite’

Types of Floor Hardeners of Build Core Coreflor STD : Floor Hardener with natural silica aggregates and ideally suitable for exterior floors as well as those subjected to continuous water contact. Coreflor HD : Floor Hardener with emery grains and ferro-silicon aggregates that can provide an excellent wear-resistant floors and suited for both exterior and interior floors

Application of Coreflor STD
