Pedigree Specialists in food commodities; human consumption, animal consumption. Over 30 years of handling frozen, chilled and ambient products saw the advent of computerisation for food products named ‘Traces’ and consequently incorporated into our own operating procedures. A later development was our commencement of import services to the Fresh Fruit & Vegetables Trade. In 2008 a computerised system to handle Fruit & Vegetables was introduced and incorporated into Grange Shipping operating procedures. The highest levels of service are maintained to avoid any delays and to facilitate the quickest deliveries required by the Fruit & Vegetables markets. Image courtesy of Maersk Line

What We Handle Today Meat, Seafood, Dairy, Fresh Fruit & Vegetables. All animal carcasses, cuts of meat and by products. All fish, crustaceans, molluscs and by products. All cheeses, yoghurts, milks, creams and by products. All fresh fruits & vegetables. All other food products under import control. Our experience covers all areas: Frozen Chilled Ambient We have established relationships with all U.K. B.I.P.’s – Felixstowe, Thamesport, Tilbury, Southampton & Liverpool. We are able to work through any U.K. B.I.P. Image courtesy of Maersk Line

Statutory Obligations Notification of arrival must be made 48 hours prior to vessel arrival. All details must be submitted to B.I.P.’s electronically using the ‘TRACES’ system. Each declaration will be issued with a control reference. On receipt we then produce a physical ‘C.V.E.D.’ (Common Veterinary Entry Document) The ‘C.V.E.D.’ must be lodged with the authorities 48 hours before cargo arrival. Every consignment must be presented for physical examination. Examination may be full, door inspection or seal check. Documents required for presentation; Health Certificate, Packing List, Commercial Invoice and Bill of Lading. Any failure to comply with these statutory obligations may result in the cargo being refused entry into the E.U. It is very important that those involved have a full understanding and experience of these requirements.

Meat All animal carcasses, cuts of meat and by products. Documents to be presented; C.V.E.D., Health Certificate, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading All meat products are subject to licence controls. C.E.D. controls applied to determine if products are fit for human consumption. AGRIM licences are issued which give specific guidance of duty payable. The E.U. applies differing levels of control dependent upon the country of origin. The level of control required for each country determines what documents must be presented. Grange Shipping has a proven track record in supplying the high standards of service required by the Meat Trade.

Seafood Fish, Crustaceans, Molluscs and by products. Documents to be presented; C.V.E.D., Health Certificate, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading. Categorised into two groups – either ‘Farmed’ or ‘Wild’; Wild products will always require a ‘Catch Certificate’. Grange Shipping has an exemplary record in delivering the high level of service required by this demanding market. Shrimps, Prawns etc., require additional analytical reports. Fish products from China require additional reporting. C.E.D. control is applied to certain products to determine quality for human consumption.

Dairy Cheeses, Butter, Spreads, Yoghurts, Creams and by products. Documents to be presented; C.V.E.D., Health Certificate, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading. Some dairy products are covered by TAY Licences. Licencing controls are placed on certain products such as cheese.

Fresh Fruit & Vegetables Documents to be presented; Packing List, Commercial Invoice, Phytosanitary Certificate, Compliance Certificates. Description of goods is very important and must be type specific by variety. Some countries have ‘self compliance’ agreements with U.K., in such cases they must dispatch Compliance Certificates with their consignments. With Compliance Certificates transit times are paramount as they are subject to validity and expiry dates. Most Fruit/Vegetables are controlled at point of entry into the U.K. To handle imports of this nature, clients need to be authorised as a registered importer. Grange Shipping are an authorised agent with the U.K. government gateway system and hold our own registration number. The control system used by authorities in the U.K. is ‘PEACH’ (Procedure for Electronic Application for Certificates from the Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate).

Fresh Fruit & Vegetables (cont.) More U.K. authorities require reports than for any other refrigerated products, this requires interface with A.L.V.S. (Automatic Licence Verification System); Rural Payments Agency, Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate, Food & Environment Research Agency, Plant Health & Seeds Inspectorate and H.M. Revenue & Customs. An electronic data base ‘eDomero’ controls the flow of documents and release of all produce. All documents for produce should be submitted ‘electronically’ five days prior to arrival. On submission of data we produce an HCG6i document. The ‘PEACH’ system uses a traffic light control system to indicate the progress each consignment is making and it’s current status. The importation of fresh produce differs dependent upon country of origin. Most customers courier original documents which must be handled with great care as they cannot be replaced.

General Comments & Conditions As conditions for handling / importing refrigerated cargoes vary considerably depending upon country of origin and commodity, the understanding of procedural requirements must be of the highest level. Any failure to comply with these requirements will have serious consequences for the cargo and the client. Grange Shipping have long established and close relationships with not only the client but also: H.M. Revenue & Customs, all U.K. B.I.P.’s, Port Health Authorities, the Rural Payments Agency, the Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate, the Food & Environmental Research Agency, the Plant Health & Seeds Inspectorate, Port Authorities & Operators and the Shipping Lines. We also handle regular deliveries of Fruit to the Dublin markets, as delivering fresh produce to Ireland via the U.K. can save the client several days in transit time. We have a full understanding of the customers needs, the commodity markets, the labyrinth of fiscal and procedural requirements. We have a proven track record of customer satisfaction gained through many years of dedicated service.
