Setting Up a New iPad Steps for initializing an iPad: Choose Language. Choose Country or Region. Enable Location Services. Choose a Wi-Fi Network. Set up as New or Restore From Backup (iTunes or iCloud). Enter Apple ID or create new Apple ID. – You will probably want to install iTunes on your PC as well.install iTunes on your PC Agree to Terms and Conditions. Set Up iCloud. Restore from Backup. Use Find My iPad. Diagnostics.

iTunes and the Cloud Many essential software packages are no longer supplied on CD, instead they are offered as downloads. That's the case with iTunes, you have to download it from the Apple website. iCloud is a free storage service from Apple. Rather than saving things to your computer, you save them on the internet. It stores music, photos, apps, contacts, documents, etc. When something is purchased in iTunes, it automatically syncs (pushes) to your devices.

iPad Hardware

Turning an iPad On/Off Sleep/Awake Button – Hold down to turn on – Hold down to turn off – Push to wake up – Push to put to sleep Home Button – Push to wake up

Settings

Airplane Mode – Airplane mode disables the wireless features of iPad in order to reduce potential interference with aircraft operation and other electrical equipment. Wi-Fi – Wi-Fi settings determine whether iPad uses local Wi-Fi networks to connect to the Internet. The more bars you see, the stronger the signal. Notifications – Push notifications appear in Notification Center and alert you to new information, even when an app isn’t running. You can turn them off if you don’t want to be notified, and you can change the order they appear in. Location Services – Location Services lets apps such as Reminders, Maps, Camera, and third- party location-based apps gather and use data showing your location.

Settings continued – Use Brightness settings to adjust the screen to a comfortable level – Wallpaper settings let you set an image or photo as wallpaper for the Lock screen or Home screen – Picture Frame mode turns iPad into an animated picture frame. – Choose which transition to use, the duration of each photo, and which album to display. – Zoom in on faces and shuffle photos.

General Settings About – get information about your iPad, including available storage space, serial numbers, network addresses, and legal and regulatory information Software Updates – lets you download and install iOS updates from Apple Usage – view available storage space, the percentage of battery power remaining, and, on 4G or 3G models, cellular usage Sounds Network – use to configure a VPN (virtual private network) connection and access Wi-Fi settings

General Settings continued Bluetooth – connect wirelessly to Bluetooth devices such as headphones, keyboards, speakers iTunes Wi-Fi Sync – sync iPad with iTunes on a computer that’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network Spotlight Search – lets you specify the content areas searched by Search, and rearrange the order of the results Auto-Lock – turns off the display, preserves battery power, and prevents unintended operation

General Settings continued Passcode Lock – enables data protection; if you forget your passcode, you must restore the iPad software Restrictions – set restrictions for the use of some apps and for purchased content Side Switch – use to lock screen orientation or to silence notifications and sound effects Multitasking Gestures – let you quickly switch between apps, reveal the multitasking bar, and go the Home screen

General Settings continued Date & Time Keyboard – turn keyboards on for writing in different languages, and turn typing features, such as spell-checking, on or off International Accessibility (next 2 slides) Reset – can reset the keyboard dictionary, network settings, home screen layout, and location warnings. You can also erase all of your content and settings.

Accessibility: Vision – VoiceOver: VoiceOver describes aloud what appears onscreen, so you can use iPad without seeing it. Important: VoiceOver changes the gestures you use to control iPad; you must use VoiceOver gestures to operate iPad—even to turn VoiceOver off again to resume standard operation. – Zoom lets you magnify the entire screen to help you see what’s on the display – Large Text lets you make the text larger in Mail and Notes: 20-point, 24-point, 32-point, 40- point, 48-point, or 56-point text – White on Black to invert the colors on the iPad display, which may make it easier to read the screen – Speak Selection even with VoiceOver turned off, you can have iPad read aloud any text you can select – Speak Auto-text Speak Auto-text speaks the text corrections and suggestions iPad makes when you type

Accessibility: Hearing – Mono Audio combines the sound of the left and right channels into a mono signal played on both sides. This lets users with hearing impairment in one ear hear the entire sound signal with the other ear. – Closed Captioning Turn on closed captioning for videos: Go to Settings > Video > Closed Captioning Accessibility: Physical & Motor – Assistive Touch helps you use iPad if you have difficulty touching the screen or pressing the buttons can use a compatible adaptive accessory (such as a joystick) to control iPad can also use AssistiveTouch without an accessory to perform gestures that are difficult for you – Triple-click Home – an easy way to turn some accessibility features on or off by quickly pressing the Home button three times – can set Triple-click Home to turn VoiceOver on or off, turn White on Black on or off, turn touch on or off

Screens Swiping – Right, left, up, down – Where am I? Search – Swipe left to right – Home button Dock – Home Button twice – 4 Fingers – Swipe left to right – Swipe right to left
