Why Emphasize Quality Assurance? –Ensure adequate planning in advance so that: data collected is reliable analysis supports anticipated decision-making –Get defensible results –Avoid surprises –Better ensure that data represent actual conditions

EPA QAPP Requirements All organizations conducting environmental programs funded by EPA are required to establish and implement a quality system. EPA has developed the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) as a tool for project managers and planners to document the type and quality of data needed for environmental decisions and to describe the methods for collecting and assessing those data. EPA requires that all environmental data used in decision making be supported by an approved QAPP.
