AGE OF TECHNOLOGY

1) Take a look at “What Not to Wear” sheet. 2) Locate the section that deals with Electronic Devices (EDs). 3) Use this sheet as a reference when you forget appropriate usage of any electronic devices on campus. 4) If you are not sure about the policy, leave it at home.

Interaction Look at your “What Not to Wear” sheet. Identify each of the following as we go through the slideshow. Answer the following questions using your information sheet.

Which of the following should you bring to school?

MP3 Players/iPods Leave home: iPods MP3 players CD players Radios These devices will be confiscated if seen in class or commerce areas. Even if it is in your backpack, you run the risk of having it picked up.

Which one of these is OK to have on campus?

How about these two?

Ha! Trick Question! Neither portable DVD players nor portable gaming devices should be brought to campus. The calculator can stay if your teacher permits!

What to Use? The teacher has asked the class to take notes. So you reach in your bag and pull out some notebook paper. What should you use to write with? Students should not be in possession of permanent markers, paints, liquid paper, etc.

New or Old, Cameras Stay Home, too.

Oh yeah, we can’t forget about the cell phones!

Judy is talking on her cell phone in the front of the school at 3:45PM. Is this acceptable according to campus policy? YES Cell Phones can be used BEFORE 7:30am and AFTER 3:40pm

Jeron is in the lunch room and a teacher notices his cell phone sticking out of his pocket. The teacher asks to see the phone and finds that it is powered ON. What is the appropriate action the teacher should take? a) Power down the phone and give it back to Jeron. b) Confiscate the phone and leave in front office for parent or guardian to retrieve. c) Pick up the phone and tell Jeron he can pick it up at the end of the day. Question…

Phones are powered down at 7:30 AM Phones are not used to check time, the date or your calendar. Phones are not used to listen to music, play games or browse the Internet. No texting – receiving from or sending to friends or family. Phones are not used in calculator mode. Phones are not used to take pictures or videos. Phones may be powered back on at 3:40 PM after the final bell rings. Obvious, huh?

Teachers will be correcting and issuing warnings ONLY the 1 st week of the school year. Beginning the 2 nd week of school, phones will be picked up and dropped off at the front office. Parent/Guardian will have to pay a fine in order to pick up cell phone.

Electronic Devices If your not sure, leave it at home!
