Lengths Look at your thumb. Now look at only half of your thumb. This is about 1 inch. 1 inch is about the length of half a thumb!

Lengths Without taking your shoes off, look at your foot. This is about 1 foot. 1 foot is about the length of an adult male foot!

Lengths Stretch your arm out in front of you. Look at the length from your nose to your outstretched fingertip. This is about 1 yard. 1 yard is about the length from your nose to you outstretched fingertip! Show your teacher that you think she is #!

Lengths Close your eyes. Picture a football field. This is about 1 mile. 1 mile is about the length of 14 football fields! Now imagine 14 football fields.

Weight Do you remember your last birthday? Imagine you are holding 1 of your birthday cards. This is about 1 ounce. 1 ounce is about the weight of a birthday card!

Weight Have you ever gone apple picking? Imagine you are holding 3 apples in your hands. This is about 1 pound! 1 pound is about the weight of 3 apples!

Mmmm. Does anyone smell freshly- baked chocolate chip cookies? Imagine you are holding a container of milk because you are about to drink some milk with your cookies. The container of milk is about 1 quart. 1 quart is approximately equal to the amount in a medium container of milk. Volume

Raise your hand if you like to go to the beach. Pretend you are using a bucket to dig a hole in the sand. The amount in a small bucket is about 1 gallon. 1 gallon is approximately equal to the amount in a small bucket! Volume

Conversion factor : the number of units that another unit is equal to. In order to convert from one unit to another, you need to know the conversion factor. Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor.

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 496 ounces = _____ pounds? To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is a pound bigger than an ounce? We need to divide by ounces = 31 pounds

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 252 inches = _____ feet? To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is a foot bigger or smaller than an inch? We need to divide by inches = 21 feet

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 12 yards = ___ feet To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is a foot bigger than a yard? We need to multiply by yards = 36 feet

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 9 gallons = ___ quarts To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is a quart bigger than a gallon? We need to multiply by 4. 9 gallons = 36 quarts

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 4 miles = ___ feet To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is a foot bigger than a mile? We need to multiply by miles = 21,120 feet

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 24 pounds = ___ ounces To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is an ounce bigger than a pound? We need to multiply by pounds = 384 ounces

Length 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 mile = 5280 feet Weight 1 pound = 16 ounces Liquid Capacity 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups 21 feet = ___ inches To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the appropriate conversion factor. To convert to a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor. Is an inch bigger than a foot? We need to multiply by feet = 252 inches
