COSTELLO 3RD GRADE GREETING CARD COMPANY To learn about economics, the 3 rd graders wanted to open a business. In social studies, we learned that people can make products quicker in an assembly line. So we tried to think of something that people needed and would be quick to make using an assembly line.

We decided that greeting cards would be perfect because everyone uses them! But we had to go through a lot of work before we could start our business.

First, we had to apply for the different jobs that our business would need.

Some of the jobs were the Plant Manager, Order Verification Technician, Banker, Customer Service Manager, and many others.

We also had to tell our teachers why we would be good at the jobs we applied for. After we turned in our job applications, we were interviewed for the positions. Some of the interview questions were tough!

To advertise our company we created posters and commercials for our school. The posters were put up in the halls and we visited classrooms to explain our business. Then, we produced commercials that were shown during the morning news.

Check out one of our commercials!

Our company also needed supplies. Our teachers received a grant from the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence. This was a huge help in getting our company started! We could not have done it without the grant!

Working on the assembly line to make the cards was hard work. Each person had their own job to do. It was important for everyone to work carefully and do a good job.

When the orders started coming in for the Costello Greeting Card Company, we were shocked! We had so many orders! We did not have enough supplies to make all of the cards. After our teachers bought more supplies, we were able to make all of the cards that we needed.

Once all of the cards were made, it was time to package them. We had to make sure that each order had the correct amount of money. Then, we had to give each customer the cards they ordered. Each order was put in a bag and given to students and teachers throughout the school.

We made $852.00! We decided that the money should be donated to the Troy Museum and Historic Village. We visited the museum and village earlier in the school year and had a great time. After hearing that they were going to fix up another old building, we wanted to help!

Thank you for building a great museum! It is a wonderful place for us to learn about Troy and its history! We hope our donation helps other children enjoy the museum too! Costello Third Grade
