Global Bioenergy, Economy and Policy Track 1 BITs 2nd Annual World Congress of Bioenergy Xi’an, China April 25-28, 2012

Chairs Introduction Peter Lohmander Professor Dr. SLU, Sweden

Welcome!

The flight from Beijing to Xi’an has many connections to this session.

Clear skies are mostly possible via rational bioenergy decisions. Modern CHP and district heating give very limited emissions.

Hydro Power is also renewable.

Water and vegetation influence each other.

With global warming, glaciers disappear. In combination with less vegetation, we may get larger variations in the flow of water in the rivers.

China managed the water and vegetation problem long ago.

Coal power can partly be avoided via bioenergy.

Fossil fuels are often used in cars. Bioenergy is an option.

Biomass transport on the river?

Biomass and cows sometimes need the same land.

Problem definition is an art. Let us define the problems and determine the rational solutions!

Optimization of the policy for global bioenergy is a true art.

With relevant feedback and discussions, we can develop this art to perfection!

TARGET: When we leave this track, we should carry new and bright policies in our luggage!
