INTRODUCTION The esprit-de-corps amongst ASEAN members with other Asian countries has consolidated over the years in many fields including disaster management. Therefore, in order to facilitate trans-boundary response to disasters among countries in this region, the modalities are vital as preparedness to face the havoc situation.

DISASTER MECHANISM IN MALAYSIA NATIONAL SECURITY DIRECTIVE NO. 20 THE POLICY AND MECHANISM OF THE NATIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND RELIEF, WAS ACTIVATED IMMEDIATELY. SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS WERE DEPLOYED UNDER THE COORDINATION OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY DIVISION. THE OPERATION COVERS RELIEF AND RECOVERY EFFORTS BY THE RELEVENT GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, NGOs AND GENERAL PUBLIC
