 Developed a “Substitute Teacher” guide  May have seen something like this in the past  Available on the HR web page  HR>HR Forms>Substitute Information  Substitute Teacher Guide Substitute Teacher Guide  Please review this prior to the school year starting  Let’s review some key items

 Follow the work schedule of building you are subbing in  It is shared with you when you accept a job in AESOP  May be different for paras and teachers  Please report to secretary upon entering building  They will get you what you need  Early is on time and on time is late

 Please check out with administrator or secretary before you leave  You are paid for the entire contract time  Administrator and/or secretary can ask you to stay as long as within the contract of the person you are subbing for

 Austin Public Schools using AESOP to manage hiring of substitutes  Jobs become available as soon as approved ◦ In some cases, go live right away  Multiple ways to check for jobs ◦ AESOP on-line ◦ Phone call  5:00 – 9:00 PM night before  Starting at 6:00 AM the day of ◦ App ◦ if you are a preferred sub for a person

 Knowing non-work days is important ◦ So you don’t get phone calls in the AM ◦ Helps us with PD for staff to be sure enough subs  Expectation is to work one time per month ◦ If not, will get a letter saying you may be removed  Unless you contact us  Can come back at any time – just let us know  You are going to get training on this later

 Substitute Teacher ◦ Full Day: $ ◦ Less than or equal to 3 periods:$58.55  Substitute Para ◦ General Education:$10.05/hour ◦ Special Education:$11.05/hour *This may change once Paraprofessional contract is settled

 Can attend PD opportunities in District ◦ Please check with administrator to be sure OK ◦ No pay – considered to be volunteer unless directed to attend

 Six different areas with professionalism  Confidentiality – educational right to know  Records  “Things that happen in school”  Social Media  Students and community see your social media usage  When subbing, you are a representative of APS  Criticism  Dress  Dress professionally  Fashion and professional dress do conflict  Concerns need to go to building administrator

 Please wear your district issue ID  White with red letters this year  If you lose it, please contact Diane Suter (1903)  Cell phone usage  Please don’t use your cell phone during work time  Lunch and breaks are OK if necessary

 All school personnel, including substitutes, are mandated reporters ◦ Please review Substitute Guide for more specific details  Report suspicions to building administrator ◦ Follow up with written report  See HR for exact process  If it feels, looks, or smells like something is wrong, you need to report it.

 State statute that all school personnel must receive anti-bullying training  Video from InfinitecInfinitec
