Photoshop skills: Review and New Layering Opacity Adjustment Layers Saturation/ Grayscale INTRODUCING….. Masking

Open in Photoshop. Copy Background layer.

Desaturate Layer COM + Shift + U

Copy Desaturated Layer x x

Apply Motion Blur Filter

Angle 0, Distance 100ish x x

Add layer mask to motion blur filter

Paint with Black over face Set black as foreground color

This brings back facial details BEFORE: BLUR AFTER: LAYER MASK

Painting with Black on Layer Mask Erases some of that layer to EXPOSE the layer below

Merge all layers onto new layer Shift + COM + Option + E

Apply “Diffuse Glow” Filter to Merged Layer

Set Graininess (3), Glow (10) and Clear Amount (10)

Add Solid Color Fill Layer New Adjustment/ Fill Layer

Select Color from Color Picker

Change Blend Mode of Fill Layer to “Color”

Lower Opacity

MORE ABOUT LAYER MASKS WHITE in a layer mask = 100% visible Contents of that layer are 100% visible in document

MORE ABOUT LAYER MASKS Black in a layer mask = 100% transparent/ Hidden from view but not deleted. You can see through to layer below

White in Layer Mask Makes that layer 100% visible. Cannot see layer below.

Greys in Layer Mask Makes current layer somewhat transparent. Layer below is visible. Amount of visibility depends on SHADE/VALUE of GREY.

Black in Layer Mask Makes that layer 100% transparent Can see ALL of layer below.

Better option than ERASER TOOL ERASE = PERMANENTLY DELETE MASKING= HIDING IT FROM VIEW BUT INFO IS STILL THERE Use Brush Tool B to paint WHITE (cover) and BLACK (expose) MORE ABOUT LAYER MASKS
