What’s New in Middle School? * Schedule -No recess! -5 minutes to go from class to class -5 to 6 classes, each period 55 minutes each -English block is 2 hours long for some 6th graders & for students who are learning English (Beginners & Intermediate levels)

What’s New in Middle School? *Attendance & Tardy Policy -Breakfast- 7:50 a.m. -First Bell - 8:10 a.m. -Tardy Bell – 8:15 a.m. Be at school every day. If you are ill and can’t come to school, your parents need to call the attendance office to notify your reason for absence. If you are late more than five minutes, come to the main office and get a pass using the touch screen computer on the counter. You will be assigned LUNCH DETENTION on days when you are tardy to a class more than 5 minutes. There will be a bell one minute prior to the tardy bell at each period to alert you. If you accumulate 4 tardies, you will be assigned AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION or SATURDAY SCHOOL
What’s New in Middle School? POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS * Student Planner - Read it, Sign it! – Bring it to school - Use it every day! Replacements for planners and ID cards are sold in the financial office. * Physical Education uniform – suit up every day, wear sneakers every day (store your stuff in the locker). Suiting up is a part of your grade in P.E.

What’s New in Middle School? *Electronics, Cell Phones, & Toys Policy This policy is strictly enforced every day. No exceptions are made. The school will not take financial responsibility for items that are lost, damaged, or stolen. Leave all toys at home. Cell phones MUST BE TURNED OFF at all times while you are at school. No exceptions. Items will be confiscated and turned over to the Vice Principal. Scooters & skateboards – if used for transportation, must be chained and locked in the bike rack area.
What’s New in Middle School? We practice THE MONTGOMERY WAY every day and with everyone! Zero Tolerance Policy -- We say NO WAY to: - bullying, playfighting, making threats, reckless violent behavior, extremely disruptive behavior, weapons (real or toys), alcohol, tobacco, & other drugs * What used to get you just a reprimand may get you suspended in middle school! *SAFETY is our #1 priority so you can learn without distractions and disruptions. Tell an adult if you feel unsafe! Get help.
What’s New in Middle School? - Use of computers & internet Montgomery is part of the i21 Technology Grant. LOGO, or “Learning-On-The-Go” is part of that grant. -- all students will receive a netbook to use at school and to bring home every night -- students are responsible for keeping netbooks safe and charged to use every day -- if damage or loss occurs to the netbooks OR to the carrying cases, students/parents will assume financial responsibility for the deductible payment to replace the damaged/lost part
LOGO – MANDATORY MEETINGS MANDATORY PARENT/STUDENT MEETINGS – Attendance is mandatory, in order for your student to be issued the computer in a timely manner. Information will be shared and documents will be signed at that time. - Dates & times to be determined
What’s New in Middle School? Use of computers & internet - respect all school property and equipment bring your netbooks to school every day - follow all rules and guidelines when accessing websites {when in doubt, ask your teacher} - any violation or misuse will result in the withholding of your privileges, even suspension any damage or loss of your netbook OR carrying case will result in your parents having to pay for replacement! (no writing or tears to the carrying case, please!)

Parent Involvement Events (Back to School Night, Spring Open House) Workshops, Seminars, Parent Meetings, PTSO Powerschool Parent Portal – online access to check student’s attendance, grades, & assignments Daily checking in with children – check planner, check notebooks, check inside backpacks Read emails and listen to phone messages sent by the school Use email to ask teachers about student progress
Things to Know For a Successful First Day of School The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2015. * Bring with you: - backpack, pencils, notebook, the yellow envelope with all forms signed by your parents, & your class schedule * If you will eat breakfast at school, you need to arrive at 7:50 a.m. The warning bell will ring at 8:10AM
Things to Know For a Successful First Day of School The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2015. *Always enter campus using the gate on Fulton Street *Ask people for help to find your rooms if you are lost. Don’t be shy! * Be in your Period 1 classroom at 8:15 a.m. The tardy bell will ring by the time you are seated!
Things to Know For a Successful First Day of School Check your schedule, if you see any problems let your Period 1 teacher know. Don’t come to the office! Someone will stop by all classrooms to get information on schedules that need to be fixed. Make friends on the first day of school!
