 Everyone loves shopping. This Friday, Black Friday, is arguably the biggest shopping day of the year. This year, you have decided to buy gifts for all of your family members for Christmas.  In order to be an effective shopper, you will need to round efficiently and pay attention to any possible sales for the gifts you want to buy.  You also need to manage your budget so you can afford all the gifts you want to buy for your family members.

 The student task is to individually find a list of items that they would buy for family members from Use the information collected on the prices and sales of gifts to determine what gifts you would buy for your family if you were given a budget of $300 By the end of the webquest, each student will be able to:  1. Provide a preliminary list of gifts they would want to buy for each of their family members from  2. Create and print out a word document that contains information regarding the gifts you have on your final shopping list.  3. A print out of a collage of all the pictures of the gifts you have chosen for your family members.  4. A word document with the answers to the 3 task questions that are listed in this PowerPoint.

 By the end of this lesson, you should be able to answer the following questions in at least 4 sentences:  1. Do you feel you were smart with your budget? Explain why or why not.  2. Briefly describe each of the items on your final list and why you chose them.  3. Did you have to adjust your purchases to be able to stay under your budget? Explain.

 At the computer:  Start by going to the website and look at and record prices of items you would possibly want to buy for your family.  Go to the Black Friday tab and press start shopping now to begin shopping online for gifts for your family.  Write down the (list) price of each item and then round that price to the nearest 10. Then click on (see our price) and write down how much money you will save if you buy the gift.  In the link below is an example of the information you will see for your gift.  Organize your information into a word document. Your document should include your name and date at the top. After this write out Budget: $300 in bold. Then write out in bullet form the gift, list price, your rounding of the list price and how much money you saved for each gift on your list.  Bring in your collages and materials into class and be ready to present your project to the class. For a minute or two, reflect on whether or not you enjoyed the activity and describe at least two of the gifts that made your final shopping list. Also talk about why the students are doing the activity. This project allows students to step into the role of adults buying gifts for their families. The project influences the students to look at sales, original prices of gifts and balancing a budget so they can buy all the gifts they need.
