Reading Strategy Spotlight Predicting Make Connections Analyzing

Predicting Learning goal: I can make a reasonable guess about the content of an opinion piece based on evidence. Consider: Before reading: the title; subheadings; visuals; captions During reading: look for evidence that supports your prediction and confirm or change your prediction (look for key words and sentences)

Making Predictions about an Opinion Piece Before Reading: Record a prediction about the content of the article based on the title, the images, and the captions. During Reading: Record at least three passages from the article that either support or do not support your predictions. After Reading: How does the reading strategy of predicting help you to better understand the content of the article.

Summary To make predictions: 1.Use clues such as titles, visuals, and subheadings to anticipate what is coming next. 2.Keep confirming and revising your predictions as you read, listen, or view.

Your Opinion In paragraph form, express your own opinion on this issue. Do you agree or disagree with the writer? Do you think the same argument could be made with magazines targeting young men? Explain using examples. Complete a t-chart
