What In The World Does THAT Mean?

Boot Short for bootstrap.

Bootstrap Bootstrapping is the leveraging of a small initial effort into something larger and more significant. In computer terms, to bootstrap the computer is to use a smaller program (the BIOS) to start the Operating System.

BIOS Basic Input/Output System This is the software – stored in ROM – which starts the computer and bootstraps into the operating system.

Types of Boots Soft or warm boot –When you or some software (think updates and new installations) shuts the computer down and then immediately restarts it. Hard or cold boot –When you turn the computer off (shut down) and leave it off for a minimum of 30 seconds (60 seconds is better!)

Reboot vs. Restart Both terms mean the same thing.
