LO: To look at Christmas celebrations around the world.
Who’s this guy in the red suit?
In Wales, he’s Father Christmas, or Santa to some. In Belgium, he is de Kerstman. In France, he is P ère Noel. In Brazil, he is Papai Noel. In Hungary, he is “the winter Grandfather”. In Russia, he is Father Frost.
In Wales, we are very traditional, we have a Christmas tree, we talk about the Christmas story. In school we sing carols and have nativity plays. It’s cold and if it snows, we make snowman, have snowball fights, fall over on the ice – but it’s not cold everywhere…..
In Australia and Jamaica, it’s hot and sunny – would they want to be eating a roast dinner? Maybe, they would have a BBQ on the beach. Different places, celebrate Christmas in different ways.
How we celebrate might change, but the reason we celebrate does not. Christians all over the world celebrate Christmas for the same reasons. ….. The birth of Jesus.
