What is MDOP?  Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) for Software Assurance helps enterprise customers enhance manageability while reducing the complexity and cost of their IT infrastructures

 Enterprise IT infrastructures are increasingly complex to manage. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop.  The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management.

 MDOP employs six innovative technologies to increase desktop manageability, reduce TCO, and improve overall infrastructure satisfaction:

Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V)  turns applications into centrally managed services that are never installed  never conflict with versions  applications are streamed on demand to end users.

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V)  provides deployment and management of virtual PC images to enable key enterprise scenarios, primarily resolving application compatibility with a new version of Windows

Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM)  Simplify the creation of new GPOs by using GPO templates, storing standard settings to use as starting points for new GPOs.  Perform offline editing of GPOs, so you can create and test them before deploying to a production environment.  Retain multiple versions of a GPO in a central archive, so you can roll back if a problem occurs.  Share the responsibility for editing, approving, and reviewing GPOs among multiple people using role-based delegation.  Eliminate the danger of multiple Group Policy administrators overwriting each other’s work by using a check-in/check-out capability for GPOs.  Analyze changes to a GPO, comparing it to another GPO or another version of the same GPO using difference reporting.

Microsoft Asset Inventory Service (AIS)  Is a hosted service that collects software inventory data and translates it into actionable business intelligence.

Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DART)  reduces downtime by accelerating troubleshooting, repair, and data recovery

Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring (DEM)  provides insights into application and operating system failures  allowing helpdesk to be more proactive in managing PC problems, without installing an agent to the endpoint.
