Chicks In Science Committee Member Office of Community Involvement Legacy of Learning Exhibit Montana Woman of Achievement Chicks in Science April, 12 th 2014 Lauren Wright I love science and the environment! I am excited to learn more about other women in Montana that are making breakthroughs in STEM related fields!

Joanna Thamke Stem Field: Science In 2012, U.S. Geological Survey Scientist, Joanna Thamke received the National Level Silver Medal Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for her work addressing contaminated drinking water on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. Hydrologist U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

IMPACT COMMUNITY: In 1998 Joanna Thomas received the Environmental Achievement Award for work that helped to make significant improvements to a contaminated aquifer in Polar Montana. In 2012, U.S. Geological Survey Scientist, Joanna Thamke received the National Level Silver Medal Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for her work addressing contaminated drinking water on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. WOMEN AND GIRLS: Joanna is a role model for the positive impact women can make in their communities and for the people around them by pursuing an education in STEM related fields! OTHER INTERESTING INFO: Joanna Thamke co authored Estimated Water Use in Iowa, 1985: Usgs Open-File Report and has written several other articles about water usage in the United States.
