Slide Design Consider your audience Design around content Design for simplicity Design for clarity Print / Screen Limit # of slides Engage your audience: Graphics Animation / Transitions Videos Create the PowerPoint with the audience in mind. Design around your content. PowerPoint design should be simple and easy to read for the audience. Consider what your audience can see, detailed graphs and small print are hard to see. Include graphics to engage your audience. Animation should be kept to a minimum and should be used to illustrate a specific point. Video should be used to illustrate a specific point, it should be short and followed by Q&A.

Slide Content Title Slide: Objectives and Overview of the presentation Catchy Specific heading Your name / affiliation / title Objectives and Overview of the presentation Number of slides and order in presentation Main ideas in bulleted format Divide content in logical topics Include a conclusion Include a slide for asking questions Create an effective opening page, Specific Title, with your name, affiliation and title below. Include an outline of the presentation. Include number of slides in presentation and where you are in the presentation (i.e. slide 5 of 10). Include main ideas only on each slide in bulleted format. Presentation Content Include Introduce: Emphasize main topics yourself / affiliation / titles / expertise content / topic timeline Emphasize main topics graphics animation Include humor Interactive questions contact information Introduce yourself, the topic, and what you are going to present and give a timeline. Do not read your notes, look at the audience and point to the specific items you are discussing on the presentation. Do not hurry your speech; give your audience enough time to catch up with you. Use appropriate humor to engage your audience. Give the audience enough time to ask questions.

Preparing Presentation Prepare to record your audio choose quiet area use good microphone choose software to record prepare the script ahead of time When recording ensure text & audio sync well vary tone and pose when appropriate go at a normal pace do not aspire for perfect recording Prepare your PowerPoint to add record your audio. Use a good microphone with noise cancelling options. Choose the software to record: i.e. Jing, Screen.Casto.Matic, Camtasia, Captivate, or simply PowerPoint. Prepare the script ahead of time. When recording, make sure the slides and audio sink well. Try to vary your tone, pose, and go at a normal pace when recording. Give your audience time to absorb and reflect on the content. Start by introducing yourself, the topic, and what you are going to present and give a timeline. Use appropriate humor to engage your audience. Give you contact information in case your audience need to ask additional questions or need additional resources.
