Employee Guidelines for Acceptable Use of Technology Resources

LISD provides technology resources to its employees for educational and administrative purposes.

Use Technology Resources By Facilitating… With Support and Supervision By… Support Staff Teachers Parents Communication Innovation Resource Sharing

The use of these technology resources is a PRIVILEGE, not a right.

What are the District Technology Resources?

The District Technology Resources ALSO include:

The District reserves the right to monitor all technology resource activity.

All employees are expected to use the computers and computer networks in a responsible and ethical manner.

Teachers and students should always document their source. Teachers and students should always follow the copyright laws.

Multiple Copies No more than 1 work from a single author No more than 3 authors are copied from a single collective work (anthology) No more than 9 instances of multiple copying occur during a single term or semester Consumable Works Shall NOT be copied Standardized tests shall NOT be copied Workbooks that are created to be consumed shall NOT be copied Confusion: Consumable Works Workbooks that can be copied are “black line masters” If you own the workbook, you may make enough copies for your students only. The same item may not be reproduced from term to term.

The District’s technology resources will be used for learning, teaching and administrative purposes consistent with the District’s mission and goals.

Acceptable Use: Prior to using technology resources, teachers and students should review the Network Access General Use Guidelines for Students together.

While using computers and/or Internet: Protect students from inappropriate material and behavior While students are sitting near technology resources: Protect all equipment from vandalism Supervise Students Insure students that use computers have signed the “Network Access General Use Guidelines for Students” Insure students have been granted parental permission to access the Internet Permission

Cyberbullying is threatening, tormenting, harassing, humiliating, or embarrassing another student using digital technology, such as a cell phone, computer, or social networking (blogs, chat rooms, forums). Report Cyberbullying immediately to an administrator. Supervise students while on the Internet at all times. Do not allow students to enter online chat rooms or social networking websites. Review appropriate online behavior with students.

Encouraging students to engage in collaborative conversations while using technology tools is an acceptable use of technology.

Attempting to read, delete, send, copy or modify the electronic mail of other users is unacceptable. Attempting to log on, assist others in logging on, or log on a computer or account as another user is unacceptable. Log On Not protecting your password, sharing your password or another user’s password with anyone is unacceptable. Passwords

Attempting to or submitting, publishing or displaying any defamatory, inaccurate, racially offensive, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, or threatening materials or messages either public or private is unacceptable.

Disabling the filtering software that blocks access to visual depictions that are obscene, pornographic, inappropriate for students, or harmful to minors, as defined by the Children’s Internet Protection Act and as determined by the Superintendent or designee is unacceptable.

Violating Access Rights Linking a student’s personal information to their names or photograph on a district web resource is unacceptable. Gaining unauthorized access to restricted information or resources is unacceptable. Accessing information resources, files, and documents of another user without authorization is unacceptable.

Unacceptable Use: Harming Equipment Attempting to or harming equipment, materials or data, including knowingly placing a computer virus on a computer or a network is unacceptable.

Staff members should set aside time daily to check, respond to, and maintain messages. All communication via is governed by the Open Records Act. Notify the campus principal immediately of any unsolicited , particularly if it is of a “hate mail” nature.

Consequences of Improper Use Improper or unethical use may result in disciplinary actions as identified in CQ Local. Restitution for costs associated with system restoration, hardware or software costs may be implemented. The District may suspend or revoke a system user’s access to the District’s system upon violation of District policy and/or administrative regulations regarding acceptable use.
