II. Our “feast” vs. the priests’ forbidden food (Hebrews 13:9-11a) A.A word of warning (Hebrews 13:9) 1. A general warning: strange teachings 2. III. Outside the camp (Hebrews 13:11b-14) A.The theme (outside) is developed (13:11b) B.Jesus suffered outside the gate (13:12). C.To draw near to Jesus we must go outside the camp (13:13). 1. Outside the camp was the unclean place. a.Executions (Lev. 24:10-23; Num. 15:32-36) b.Lepers, other unclean (Num. 5:1-4) c.Bathroom (Deuteronomy 23:12-14) 2. Outside the camp was where Israel must meet with God (Exodus 33:7-11). D.Going outside the camp = going outside the city, to a better, lasting city (13:14).
IV. Better sacrifices (Hebrews 13:15-16) A.Are we excluded from offering sacrifices? B.Accused of no longer having sacrifices? C.Christians do have sacrifices – better sacrifices. 1. The sacrifice of praise (word) “Confess”: John 9:22; 12:42; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 24:14; Titus 1:16 1. The sacrifice of doing good and sharing (deed)
