Lesson 1 1. abridged: shortened, usually in reference to a written or spoken work 2. browse: to look at in l leisurely and casual manner 3. citation: a reference to or a quotation from an authority 4. compendium: a short but complete summary 5. entry: in a reference book, a subject or word and information 6. etymology: the origin and history of a word 7. gazetteer: dictionary of geographical places 8. homonym: word having the same pronunciation as another word but a different but a different meaning from that word 9. lexicon: a dictionary 10. phonetics : the study of the sounds of a language
