1. A boy goes into a store and sees a video game he likes. He is holding the video game case. He looks very happy. -hold = 들다, 잡다 < grab = 움켜쥐다 ( 예 ) A boy is in a video game shop and holding a video game. He looks happy because he has been looking for the video game. 2. Unfortunately, the price tag on the video game is too expensive. The boy is worried because he doesn’t have enough money. -price tag = 가격표 ( 예 ) However, he can’t take it right now because he doesn’t have enough money to afford the video game. The boy is now beginning to worry. -afford ~ = ~ 을 감당하다

3. The boy decides to earn extra money by doing chores. He is raking leaves in the yard. -chores = 잡일, 허드렛일 -rake = 긁어 모으다 ( 예 ) The boy decides to make some money. Raking leaves in the yard is the way to get it. 4. He rakes all of the leaves into a big pile. The adult gives the boy some money for raking the leaves. ( 예 ) After raking and bagging all of the leaves in the yard, he gets money from the adult. -bag = (v) 담다

5. The boy goes back to the store and buys the video game that he wanted. He is happily paying for the game. ( 예 ) The boy goes back to the shop to buy the video game. He is smiling and playing the game. -take ~home = 사서 가져오다 (O) / bring, buy ~home (X) ( 예 ) The boy is happily playing the video game on a huge flat screen TV in his living room.

3. The girl leaves her seat for a few minutes to do something else. ( 예 ) The girl is not at her desk. She is out doing something else. -not at one’s desk = 자리를 비우다. 4. However, when she comes back, her red USB is missing. So she asks her friend sitting next to her where it is. The friend doesn’t seem to know. -missing (O) / absent (X) ( 예 ) The girl realizes her red USB is missing. So she asks her friend if she knows where it is. Her friend doesn’t know it, either. -either (O) / too (X)

5. The girl goes to the information desk and the worker has her USB drive. The girl looks happy and relieved to have found it. -to have found it (O) / to found it (X) ( 예 ) The girl asks at the information desk and, fortunately, the worker has the USB. She looks now happy and relieved. 6. She goes back to her desk and gathers her backpack and books. She checks out the books from the library. -check out = 대여하다 ( 예 ) She comes back to the information desk with her belongings. The worker helps her borrow the books from the library. -belongings = 소지품

1. A smiling boy is showing a snowboarding outfit to his mom. He is thinking about snowboarding with it on. -snowboard : n,v ( 예 ) A boy is about to go to a ski resort and showing off his snowboarding outfit to his mom. He is already excited to snowboard. -show off = 자랑하다, 뽐내다 2. The boy goes to a ski resort and takes a beginner class to learn how to snowboard. There is an instructor and several other students in the class with him. ( 예 ) The boy arrives at a ski resort and learns how to snowboard from an instructor at the beginner class. -beginner(<intermediate<advanced) class = 초급반 (O) / low class (X)

3. The boy starts off on the beginner slopes. One girl falls down, but the boy is snowboarding well. -start off ( 예 ) The boy comes down the beginner slopes. He is doing well while one girl is losing her balance and falling down. 4. The boy decides to go on an advanced mountain. He remembers his instructor telling him not to go on the advanced mountain, but he does not care. -go on : 계속 더 높은 곳으로 올라가다 ( 예 ) The boy is full of confidence and tries to snowboard on the advanced slope against the instructor’s order. -against ~’s order

5. The boy crashes through a fence and falls down. He seems to be in a lot of pain. ( 예 ) The boy hits a fence and falls backward. He looks severely injured. -crash > hit 6. The boy has to go to a hospital. He has a cast on his right leg. It is broken or sprained. He can’t walk by himself so his mother has to help him. The boy and mom do not look very happy. He will probably be more careful when he snowboards next time. -cast on / sprained (ankle) ( 예 ) The boy goes to a hospital to take care of his injured leg. He is wearing a cast on his right leg and needs help from his mom or crutches to walk. -crutches
