Unit 13 Capitalization (Concluded)3 of 13 Place Names and Geographic Terms Capitalize names of regions of a country or of the world. Do not capitalize words that indicate compass directions or general locations. The Civil War was fought between the North and the South. We have friends on the eastern tip of the island.

These words include a, an, and, as, at, but, by, for, if, in, nor, or, off, on, or, out, the, to, and up. Follow these same capitalization rules for titles of chapters and articles, which are enclosed in quotation marks. The book A Walk in the Shadow of the Moon (or A Walk in the Shadow of the Moon) is an autobiography. We must read the article entitled “With the Help of an Angel.”
