May, 2015

o The Town of Vulcan will be building a “Solar Park”, based on the concepts of energy efficiency, aesthetics, and energy production. o This is the first of its kind in Canada o Initial funding is provided by the Alberta Energy Innovation Fund

o Solar energy is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. o Directly with photovoltaic cells o Indirectly with concentrated solar power. o We will incorporate this with aesthetically pleasing mounting systems.

o The term “Solar Park” is usually associated with large scale photovoltaic power applications supplying power at a utility level. o For our purposes we are using the term in the aesthetic sense. Photovoltaic power applications will be integrated into a public venue as solar tree’s. Solarcentury Sol

 For Energy Innovation Funding This project is expected to last 18 months.  Approval to begin project development from Alberta Energy Innovation  Approval from AESO, Alberta Energy for electricity production and electricity offsets  Begin building  All production infrastructure are built and installed  First electrical production,  Commissioned  EXTENSIONS: will extend past July 30, if other sources of funding are secured.

 Past  Secure land  No rental fee  Long term lease agreements  Can build on site  Can use site for public  Welding Course  Completed with CCHS  Designed to engage the students  Solar Seminars  4 Completed  Designed to engage the community  Solar Design Challenge  Completed with the high school students  Prizes were given for design concepts  Request for Proposal  To work with design  Recent  Request for quote  Awarded to Goose Creek  Design Build based on artistic panels  Concept Design  Completed as guide for Design build  Grant Application; New grants  Begin application process to extend funding

 Bullfrog  Application of $30,000 for green solar initiative.  Will be applied to artistic panels  Applied for by Vulcan  Alberta Innovates Technology Futures  Application for $300,000 from AITF technology application program  Will be applied to increased park capacity.  Applied for by Goose Creek  Marketing for benches, tables and light bollards  Benches  $2500 to purchase the bench / permanent advertising  Picnic Table  $3500 to purchase the table / permanent advertising  Light bollard  1500 to purchase a light / permanent advertising  Elevators $500/yr for advertising or $5000 for permanent

o Focus is on education and development o Included in this project will be: o Signage and demonstration information packages o Solar energy o Energy production integration into a community scape o Energy efficiency o Vulcan branding initiative o Real time monitoring (power production, usage?) o Monitor total, and instantaneous energy production, display at the High School, and Usage if possible o Seminar development o Application of renewable energy into green space o Applied research o Using energy production and usage, plot savings over years. o Also work with social research to determine the affect of the solar park on the community

 Seeking contributions from the community for;  In-kind contributions  Materials  Park Benches ($2500 to purchase a bench / advertising permanent)  Picnic Tables ($3500 to purchase a table / advertising permanent)  light bollards ($1500 to purchase a light / advertising permanent)  wall of fame (sponsor to build $2500)  art  Labour  Cash contributions from individuals, local businesses, civic organizations, etc…  Purchase of advertising/naming  Name on a solar elevator or solar module  $500/yr to assist with maintenance of the park.  Or $5000 one time payment.  All partners and contributions will be displayed on signage in the park.
