LADIES AND GENTLEMEN… THE 2° C.D. “F.GIAMPAGLIA”PUPILS PRESENT: PICTURES OF THE TRIP TO THE VESUVIO VISITING OUR FRIEND VESUVIO THE MOST STUDIED,VISITED, PAINTED AND CONTROLLED VOLCANO OF THE WORLD

The Vesuvius: the good giant This activity is born from the consideration: “The children can’t have relations with their own town if they don’t know its geographical and geological structures and its history … as the knowledge has respect and love for what is around us.” After reading books on the characteristic of volcanos and in particular of the Vesuvius, the pupils made a two days excursion on the top of the Vesuvius: they walked on the lava stones as for as the crater, they walked along the paths in the National Park to observe closely the different species of fauna and flora living there The pupils had a meeting with the vulcanologist F.Dobran who reassured them that the area around the Vesuvio is always controlled night and day by precision instruments of the Vesuvian Observatory and we don’t have to worry as in case of danger we will have time to go away. The overnight stay on the Vesuvius under the tents, during the excursion in the silence of the volcanic nature interrupted only by the singing of some birds, has been useful for our pupils to overcome their fear for the “Good Giant” The final products of this activity as drawings, written and oral observations and the representations of the Vesuvians fauna and flora have been useful objects for the teachers to evaluate the acquisition of the objectives fixed for this activity
