Quote Monday April 6 th, 2009 (4/6/2009) Required Materials:  None Time Given:What We Will Do: 1 minute minutes 5 minutes 2 minutes Remaining Time Announcement: Movie Club Viewing  4/17 Verbal Warm Up: “What did YOU do on break?” Mr. Hampton’s Spring Break Changes to 4 th Quarter Schedule for next month (“Night”) / this week Pass out composition notebooks, graded papers  Questions? See me at my desk! “History is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake.” --James Joyce from Ulysses

 If you are in FILM CLUB, the viewing is not this Friday (4/10).  It has been moved because I will not be here.  It is not the following Friday (4/17).  Tell other members that you run into! FILM CLUB viewing has changed!

Time Given: About 1 minute per person What did YOU do on your spring break? Go anywhere that you have never been? See anyone who you normally do not get to see very often? Do anything that you normally wouldn’t get to do? Explain!!! Monday April 6 th, 2009 (4/6/2009)

 As many of you know, Mr. Hampton spent most of his spring break moving all of his “crap” from his old, rental house to his newly purchased home.  For those that do not know, this is actually the 3 rd home I’ve tried to purchase.  #1: 4/2 in Hawthorne, FL  Refused to sell.  #2: 3/2 in Ocala, FL  Too greedy/did not want to repair 24 year old leaking roof.  #3 (THE WINNER): 3/2 in Ocala, FL  Two ex-teachers used to live there and passed away. Mr. Hampton’s Spring Break

 I have been watching HGTV (Home and Garden Television) for the past 6 months.  I have a lot of ideas on renovation and now I have a house to do them to.  My first project: mounting the television above the fireplace. Mr. Hampton’s Spring Break

Mounting the Television

 Demoing makes a lot of mess.  Re-routing cable through the attic and breathing fiberglass insulation IS NOT HEALTHY.  Painting sucks.  42” Plasma televisions are VERY heavy. Things Learned

 Demoing makes a lot of mess.  Re-routing cable through the attic and breathing fiberglass insulation IS NOT HEALTHY.  Painting sucks.  42” Plasma televisions are VERY heavy.  Owning your home rocks! Things Learned

 Over break, I’ve had plenty of time to think of what works and what does not work.  Hence, we have some changes to 4 th quarter Back to Business!

 Behavior contracts are still in effect  if you get one, it means I am trying to work WITH you before involving the office. 4 th Quarter Changes

 I am creating a new grade for this class that will fall into your CLASSWORK category.  It is called “Responsibility Credit.” 4 th Quarter Changes

 What kills your grade?  NOT GETTING MAKE UP WORK.  To help you want to get your make up work, everyday you will receive a grade in this class for simply “Being Here” and doing your work.  How does it work? 4 th Quarter Changes

 Are you here and did you do your work?  YES/YES = 100% A  YES/NO = 70% C  NO/NO = 0% F  Want to get credit for a day you’ve missed? Come and see me BEFORE school.  I will change your 0% F to a 100% A. 4 th Quarter Changes

 As promised, we have some strike system changes. 4 th Quarter Changes

 How many strikes to get homework?  1 st period: 3 Strikes  Suggestions: Stop talking during warm up/during “no talk” times.  2 nd period: NO STRIKES  3 rd period: NO STRIKES  4 th period: 3 Strikes  Suggestions: Get back from lunch ON TIME (1:03)  6 th period: 7 Strikes  Suggestions: Stop talking during warm up/during “no talk” times, and while I’m talking. 4 th Quarter Changes

 We will be starting our new novel, “Night.”  It will cover World War II and The Holocaust.  I’ve you’ve ever studied the Holocaust before and hated it, give me a chance.  Many if you hated English before me and now actually find reading tolerable and/or enjoyable.  Just trust me…! The Month of April

This Week Preview DayWhat Are We Doing? MondayWelcome back messages. Changes to 4 th Quarter. New novel for the month. Pass back notebooks/papers. TuesdayLots of notes on WWII and The Holocaust. Discussion about why we learn about the Holocaust every year. WednesdayDiscussion on our newest non-fiction novel. Holocaust poetry and introduction to Holocaust-era propaganda (“The Poisonous Mushroom”) Thursday/ Friday Thursday I will be at training. You will watch a movie and fill out a worksheet. Friday I will be chaperoning the 10 th grade Field Trip. You will have the same assignment.

 Because I only had 1 day to grade your notebooks, I did not comment in them, but did save comments to my grade book.  If you wish to know what your grade was for the notebook, see me after it is returned.  I also need volunteers to pass out papers from the 3 rd quarter  I’d like submissions for my KUDOS board! Pass out graded notebooks
