A SOCIAL STORY The Sounds of Sovereign Hill: Machines

The Battery The battery is a large machine that crushes quartz rock so the diggers can get the gold out. It is run by a steam engine. It is very loud. I will put my fingers in my ears so it is not too loud. It is fascinating to watch the battery Click above to see a movie of the Battery

The Steam Whistle The Steam Whistle blows over the engine room at Sovereign Hill. It tells the workers when it is time to start and finish a break. One of the workers pulls a chord to make it work. I will not be scared of the steam whistle Click above to see a movie of the steam whistle

The Wheelwrights Old fashioned wheels are made at the Wheelwrights at Sovereign Hill in an old fashioned factory. The machines are wonderful to watch but they are very loud. I will stay behind the rails in the viewing area where it is safe. I will put my fingers in my ears if it is too loud. Click above to see a movie of the Wheelwrights demonstration Click above
