St Joseph’s Primary School Peak Hill LTLL Mid-point Presentation

What did we set out to do? Gathered information from LTLL meeting in Narromine. Completed the online survey. Located weakness (red and amber lights) Devised an action plan for five areas of weakness. Currently working through action plan.

Questions Learnings Challenges Success Focus 5: Culture and community Leadership based on evidence Focus 3: Excellence Questions Learnings Focus 5: Culture and community Challenges Focus 1: The Transformed Learner Focus 6: Organising for learning Success

Focus 5: Educative Leadership Leadership based on evidence Has procedures for the routine collection of relevant evidence. Has procedures for interpreting data. Acts on the basis of feedback on performance. why what

Reasoning Data is stored in classroom programs Assessments to be analysed

What have we done? 2yr growth in NAPLAN. Standardised testing as evidence of growth. Tracking growth. Analyse data and target students for intervention. Whole school approach to data analysis. LST is devising a system for data collection

Focus 3: Values Excellence Shares an explicit view of what constitutes good teaching and learning Has high expectations of students and learning. Why What

Reasoning Exposure to current teaching and learning. Raise the bar of expectations Flexible teaching styles.

What have we done? Jolly Phonics PD day. First steps refresher. First Steps scope and sequence. First Steps folders. First Steps resources. Evidence of First Steps in Programs Continuity across literacy from K-6

Focus 5: Educative leadership Leadership building culture and community Celebrates key events and achievements as a community Why What

Reasoning Sharing school community events. Attending community events. Include community members in student learning.

What have we done? Assist with homework. Invite parents to special events Enhancing literacy in competitions. Parent information about NAPLAN. Literacy and Numeracy information nights. Open classrooms. Attend local community events.

Focus1: The transformed learner Knowledge in different disciplines and able to make connections among them. Critical and creative thinkers and problem solvers. Committed to ongoing spiritual growth. Why What

Reasoning Develop critical thinkers. Encourage children to be inquisitive by using technology. Develop stronger links between the school and parish.

What have we done? ICT Teacher to develop children’s computer skills. Circulating the school newsletter. Family, class and school masses. Include parishioners in school events.

Focus 6: Authentic Learning Organising for learning Uses technology to support teaching and learning. Allocates resources with a priority on learning. Why What

Reasoning IT professional learning. Audit resources. Catalogue school resources. Literacy and numeracy resources.

What have we done? LT to audit reading resources. ICTT to devise IT action plan. ICTT to conduct IT lessons Children’s interests in reading survey. Library barcode system to catalogue resources. Low SES funding.

How successful have we been at the LTLL process? We have begun to implement our action plans for each focus. True success will come over a period of time. Raised staff awareness about a whole school approach to learning.

3 Challenges Ensuring there is continuity across all classes and stages in our school. Due to being in a small school we have a limited number of teachers and time to complete our LTLL plan. Making links with other schools of similar sizing and staffing to discuss processes such as a data tracking system.

3 things we have learnt We are developing a stronger team work ethic by looking at our school as a whole rather than working as individuals. We need to put more effort into educating our parents about the processes and programs used in our classrooms. Increase staff and student’s skills and knowledge of technology.

Questions we still have? What is the next step after the 22nd of November. Is there a better system of lights? (too many amber lights) What support is there on offer for small schools using LTLL?
