The Game of Tennis The game of tennis can be played as either singles or doubles. The singles game has two participants, two individuals teaming up to complete against another team of two. The doubles court is 9 feet wider than the singles court, having a 4 ½ foot alley on each side of the singles court. Doubles Court

First Point of a Game Server Receiver Service Court To start the game, the server stands just behind the baseline to the right of his or her center service line, and puts the ball into play by striking it in the air in such a manner that it lands in the opponent's right service court.

First Point of a Game Server Receiver Singles Court The receiver must return the serve to the server's court on its first bounce. The rally continues until one of the players fails to return the ball, either on the fly or after the first bounce within the boundaries of his or her court.

Scoring in Tennis First point won by a player is called 15. If the server scores the first point then the score is 15-Love. If the receiver scores the first point then the score is Love-15. The server’s score is always the first number.

Second Point of a Game Server Receiver Service Court For the second point the server stands just behind the baseline to the left of his or her center service line, and puts the ball into play by striking it in the air in such a manner that it lands in the opponent's left service court.

Third Point of a Game Server Receiver Service Court To start the third point of a game, the server stands just behind the baseline to the right of his or her center service line, and puts the ball into play by striking it in the air in such a manner that it lands in the opponent's right service court.

Fourth Point of a Game Server Receiver Service Court For the fourth point the server stands just behind the baseline to the left of his or her center service line, and puts the ball into play by striking it in the air in such a manner that it lands in the opponent's left service court.

Scoring in Tennis If more than four points are needed to complete the game, the server continues to follow the pattern of standing behind the baseline and hitting the ball towards the diagonal serving box.

Scoring in Tennis (Deuce) If the score is 40-40 the score is referred to as Deuce. When a player scores a point at deuce they have the advantage. If that same player wins the next point they win the game. However, if the opponent scores the second point the two players are then back to deuce. Deuce is played until one player scores two consecutive points.

Tennis – Game, Set, Match Once a player scores four points or wins after the advantage in deuce they win the first game of the set. It takes 6 games (winning by 2) to win the set. It takes two winning sets to win the match.
