The following slide show addresses gambling, our youth, and the potential risks associated with it.

Oregon’s Gambling Services Program strongly encourages you to include problem gambling when discussing other addiction issues with clients. Here’s why... Spacebar to advance slide

Clients learn about the characteristics of an addiction to alcohol, drugs and sex, right?

Spacebar to advance slide What about gambling?

Spacebar to advance slide Is gambling a factor in some of your client’s lives? What about gambling?

Spacebar to advance slide Probably What about gambling?

Spacebar to advance slide Consider age of onset. Is it possible that gambling has been a component of your client’s risky behavior since childhood?

Spacebar to advance slide Oregonians are increasingly being exposed to gambling opportunities - on the Internet, in the community, at home and even at church - so it's no surprise that problems associated with gambling are being seen in youth.

The featured data comes from the Oregon Student Wellness Survey, an anonymous and voluntary survey of 6th, 8th and 11th grade youth, conducted in the spring of Spacebar to advance slide

Spacebar to advance slide The “Lie/Bet” screen… The last two questions are based on a valid and reliable problem gambling screening instrument which has been used for many years; saying yes to either of these is highly correlated to a potential gambling problem and indicates a need for further assessment by a trained counselor.
