Ancient Egypt Lana Tiernan Grade 4

About Ancient Egypt From coffins to mummies, to pyramids to deserts, Egypt has always been an important country. In the years of B.C, there was always a pharaoh that lead both Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt, a leader for all of the Egyptians. But did you know that pharaohs were practically considered gods in Ancient Egypt? Now, most people worship our one and only God.

The Women of Egypt The women in Egypt had almost all the same rights as men, so they were very important. Some important Egyptian women from long ago include Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Sammuramat, and Hatshepsut. If women broke the law, they had the same penalties as men. Surprisingly, women did not have to marry in Ancient Egypt. They were permitted to refuse. But most women who married were early teenagers. After a woman married, her first job was to be a good wife and mother. Women could get good jobs, and could even own a business. They could even file for divorce, but they would have to give the court a good reason. Women received 1/3 of their husband's wealth that they could take with them if they split up with their husband.

Pyramids The pyramids in ancient Egypt were fascinating. They are very large, with the largest in the world reaching an astonishing height of feet tall! That is only 8 feet away from one of the tallest buildings in the world!

Khol and Makeup The people of ancient Egypt often did their hair and makeup, even the men. They wore things like black Khol, which was made of powdered stones like an eyeliner for their eyes. They put on their Khol with wooden sticks to make it almond-shaped. They also wore green eye paints under their eyes to keep away evil spirits. The paint also was said to prevent eye diseases.

Food Since Egypt is in Africa, and very close to West Asia, Egyptians mostly ate West Asian and African foods such as wheat, barley, and also olive oil. They made the wheat and barley into soups and porridges. They especially used the barley to create beer. People would put beer jars in your grave when you died.

“My love is unique and none can rival her. Just by passing, she has already stolen away my heart. ” –Nefertiti "I will not be triumphed over." -Cleopatra

Fun Fact About Nefertiti: Did you know that Queen Nefertiti's bust had two strangely shaped eyes, and one without an eyeball?

Ancient Egypt was a very important country. We will always keep it in our minds today.

The End! Thank you for watching!
