All about Sikhism By Rosie Harper 2013

 Sikh’s believe in equality because God said everyone should be treated equally. Sikhs believe in faith and justice. They believe that all human being are equal despite there differences in colour, religion, race, sex, and creed. This is because they believe that all people are equal, In the eyes of God as they were all created by him and he loves them all. They preach that all human beings should live a peaceful life with each other and practice being a lover, humbleness, humility and equality.

Naam Karan When a baby Sikh is born there is a special ceremony called the Naam Karan. What they do at this ceremony is they randomly pick a page from the holy book (the guru granth shaib) and what ever the very first letter of the book is, is the first letter of the baby’s name. and every name has either Kaur …

NAAM KARN ( BABY NAMING ceremony) …Which means princess and has Singh in there name which means lion. It is important because the place they go to is the place they pray and they want to keep it that way. It is special to them because they had there name picked there aswell.

The amrit ceremony (join the kalsa)  They hold the ceremony to get peple to join the kalsa.

the story of brotherhood  the year was 1699 and the tenth guru, guru Gobhind singh, was talking to a group of sikhs who were gathered for the spring festival. He was trying to show the crowd how important it was to fight against those whose were trying to destroy Sikhism. He drew his SWORD AND ASKED IF ANYONE WAS WILLING TO DIE FOR THEIR RELIGON …

THE STORY OF THE BROTHERHOOD  … NO ONE MOVED. AGAIN, HE ASKED THE CROWD TO STEP FORWARD IF THEY WERE WILLING TO DIE FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN BUT AGAIN NO ONE MOVED. HE ASKED A THIRD TIME, AND ONE MAN STEPPED FORWARD.  THIS HAPPENED FIVE MORE TIMES AND FIVE MORE MEN WENT IN AND APPEARED WITH ALL FIVE MEN IN YELLOW ROBES LIKE GURU GOBHIND SINGH.

THE FIVE K’S  THE KESH  THE KANGA  THE KACCHA  THE KIRPIAN  THE KARA

THE MOOL MANTAR  THE MOOL MANTAR  THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD  Eternal truth is his name  He is the creator  Without fear or hate  immortal and without form  beyond birth and death  he is the enlightener  who can be reached by the mercy  and grace of the true guru

 The langar is when people ( only Sikhs) bring in food in all vegetarian for every one to eat.
