War in Iraq Tanner Lagace

Consequences of the War Since the beginning of the war there have been 4439 American Deaths. US Troops Wounded - 32,987. Iraqi Civilians Deaths toll at 109,230.

The Role of Iran The current President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has been strengthening ties with other neighboring countries, including Iraq. Iran’s position in the Middle East has grown stronger due to U.S. intervention with Iraq and Afghanistan.

Effects of the War on U.S. Economy The War in Iraq is costing the country billions of dollars. As of 2008, $522 Billion. With the amount of money spent on the war in 2007, the government could have provided Medicaid–level health insurance for all 45 million Americans who are uninsured. Taking the 2007 Iraq budget of $138 billion, this means that upward of 1 million jobs were lost because the Bush Administration chose the Iraq sinkhole over public investment.

U.S. Military

Iraqi Government The federal government of Iraq is defined under the current Constitution as an Islamic, democratic, federal parliamentary republic. The federal government is composed of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, as well as numerous independent commissions.

Deba'athification Shortly after the fall of the regime, American and Iraqi officials embarked on a "Deba'athification" process, whereby certain kinds of Ba'ath Party members were dismissed from government jobs. The process became bitterly controversial and had far-reaching social and political impact.

Disbanding the Iraqi Military Mr. Bremer, in Baghdad, had issued the order disbanding the Iraqi military. Mr. Bush did not mention the order to abolish the military, and the letters do not show that he approved the order or even knew much about it.

Follow up The total number of U.S. troops in Iraq has now fallen below 50,000. Under a 2008 “provincial powers law,” provincial councils in Iraq choose the governor and provincial governing administrations in each province, making them powerful bodies that provide ample opportunity to distribute patronage and guide provincial politics.
