A Rainforest is a wet, hot, humid forest. They are found near to the equator.

There are four layers of the rainforest, The forest floor, Understory,Canopy, Emergent layer. The forest floor is very dark, it only has about 2% of sunlight. There are many animals such as: Leaf cutter ants, Tigers, Jaguars, Anacondas and Ocelots but Ocelots can climb to upper layers of the Rainforest. The under story is less dark. There are also many animals like: Boa constrictors, Lizards, Frogs, Hoatzins and Chameleons.

Boa constrictor: Lives in all four layers, eats: any thing that moves…Frogs, rodents, birds, bats, monkeys, and other small mammals. Leaf cutter ant: Lives on Forest floor, eats fungus, one inch they have strong jaws which they use to cut up leaves. Sloth: lives in the Canopy, usually eats leaves, usually between 50 and 60 cm long. Most animals are in danger of dying!

Did you know 80,000 trees size of a football pitch are being destroyed each and every day? 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced just by the Amazon Rainforest! Every year, up to 5 million hectares of Rainforest are destroyed. If we keep cutting trees down then we won’t have any more Rainforests in the year 2050!
