  Any human characteristics have an effect on migration patterns in the region?  What human characteristics had an effect on economic activities in the regions?  What human characteristics had an effect on settlement patterns in the region? Factors Influencing Migration

  El Niño:  the warming of waters off the west coast of S. America, which brings about a natural change in climate every 2- 7 years.  Easterly winds push warm water and heavy rains toward the America, causing mudslides and floods there  La Niña:  the reverse of El Niño, winds blow warmer water to the lands on the Western Pacific Rim, causing increases in precipitation in places like India Natural and Human Processes in Latin America
