The Solar System: Earth By: Tiffany Baumann June 26, 2007

Where in the Solar System is Earth? Earth is the third planet in our solar system. It is one of the Inner Planets. Earth is 150 km or 93 million mi from the Sun.

History The word "Earth" comes from an ancient word that means earth or ground. Earth is estimated to be ____ years old.

Earth: Just the Facts Length of a day: 24 hours Length of year: about 365 Earth days Diameter: 12,712 km (7,926 mi)

A visit to Earth… Earth has one moon, named Luna. The average temperature of Earth is 15°C or 59°F. The surface of the Earth has mountains, oceans, and lakes. It has lots of vegetation.

Fun Facts About 70% of the world’s fresh water is stored as glacial ice. Earth is referred to as the BLUE PLANET. WHY? Because from space, the oceans combined with our atmosphere make our planet look blue. Earth is the only planet on which water can exist in liquid form on the surface. Earth travels through space at 66,700 miles per hour. Only 3% water of the earth is fresh, rest 97% salted.

Quiz Earth is which planet in our Solar System? What is the diameter of earth? How many moons does Earth have? Earth has been nicknamed the _______.
