Fragment Mass Analyzer upgrades and X-array status Darek Seweryniak, ANL

High beam intensity and efficiency updates FMA upgrades –New beam dump –New entrance quadrupole doublet Implantation station upgrades –160X160 DSSD –Digital electronics X-array status –New frame –5 th super clover

New beam dump Unreacted beam strikes the inside of the anode and the tank near the exit from the tank relatively close to the electrodes Move the interaction area away from the electrodes Avoid dumping the beam on the anode Requires significant modification of the tank

Before… After… B. DiGiovine

New entrance quads 1 st quad shorter with higher fields similar concept was used in EMMA Increase the solid angle from 8 msr to 12 msr at relatively short distances between target and FMA

FMA at 293 mm – stand-alone OLD:  y =0.038 rad  y,max = rad Q x =0.046 rad  x,max = rad NEW:  y =0.060 rad  y,max = rad Q x =0.059 rad  x,max = rad  =7.4 msr  =11.8 msr

FMA implantation station Ge clovers 160X160 DSSD Large area Si Si/PiN box plastic  dets

New high-granularity DSSD 160x160 strips 64mm x 64 mm 100, 140  m thick

Digital DAQ for DSSD IOC 4XDIG IOC master TTC + 2 router TTC CPUDisk array CPU NETWORK switch  Based on the GRETINA DAQ (320 channels)  Synchronization with analog DAQ through a common clock signal  We have just started implementing 160-channel DAQ.

New X-array frame Stephen Heimsatz 5 clover detectors in a box geometry 64x64 mm, 160x160 DSSD

X-array

X-array frame features Frame horizontal movement (rails) and vertical adjustment In-out detector adjustment All electronics on board but ADC Laptop for controlling and monitoring “portable” (transportation mode) Auto LN 2 system on board (to be implemented)
