 Home Economics Careers and Technology  California Department of Education based curriculum for courses preparing students 6-12 grade with career ready skills in 3 career pathways  Child Development and Education  Fashion and Interiors merchandising marketing and design  Culinary, Hospitality, and Tourism  Fastest growing and most economically sustainable career field

 FCS- Family and Consumer Sciences  Where home economics courses in the 50's were more narrowly focused, reflecting the "traditional" structure of society, modern home economics careers and technology courses reflect the changing social and economic patterns of the 90s. Consumer and Family Studies curriculum is concentrated on eighth content areas, each of which teach personal, family, and work management skills, as well as provide a sound background for career exploration and specialization in careers related to home economics related occupations.  HERO- Home Economic Related Occupations  AKA: ROP courses – capstone classes offered at the High School level. The reality of California's competitive job market is that employees must have the education and training employers require. Home Economics Related Occupations (HERO) programs teach students solid employment skills to enter and advance in careers that are found in some of the state’s fastest growing industries.  FACS- Family and Consumer Sciences

 FCS PATHWAYS offered :  Child Development  Food Service and Hospitality  HERO/ROP courses offered:  Careers in Early Childhood Education (ECE)  Child Care Occupations, Advanced  ProStart 1 & 2  Restaurant Management  Upon completion of Careers in ECE students qualify for option 2 in applying for California Classroom Assistant teaching credential

 FHA-HERO focuses on developing career and leadership skills for members to be successful in home, community and work life.  FHA-HERO: California Affiliate of FCCLA is the pre-professional organization for secondary students enrolled in Home Economics Careers and Technology programs in grades  Students are able to sharpen their personal leadership and career skills by participating as members and officers in competitive recognition events, leadership development activities, and community service projects.  The FHA-HERO: California Affiliate of FCCLA is sponsored by Home Economics Careers and Technology Programs, California Department of Education.

 The goal of FHA-HERO is to help youth assume their roles in society through Home Economics Careers and Technology education in the areas of personal growth, family life, career preparation, and community involvement.

 Colors:  Red an intense color which suggest strength and action  White is the symbol of sincerity and integrity  Flower:  The Red Rose- Represents the fact that members seek to improve the quality of all aspects of personal, family, community, and work life as well as joy in everyday life.

 Shape: Octagon  Represents the 8 purposes of FHA (see next slide)  The rays extending to and from the center suggest the interaction of the organization with the home, school, community, and workplace. They further symbolize the influence that participation in the organizations activities has in assisting members develop personal, leadership, citizenship, and career skills for the future.  The emblem should be worn on the side of the heart either on the hip pocket or chest.  It should not be worn in combination with other organization or combined with the school name.

 Provide opportunities for self-development and preparation for family and community living and for employment.  Strengthen the function of the family as the basic unit of society  Encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community  Encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve worldwide brotherhood  Institute programs promoting greater understanding between youth and adults  Provide opportunities for decision-making and for assuming responsibility  Become aware of the multiple roles of men and women in today’s society  Develop interest in home economics careers and technology and related occupations

 “Towards New Horizons”  This is a challenge which reminds you the member that your contribution to your home, and community today will influence the kind of home, employment, community and the world in which you will live in tomorrow.

 Future Homemakers of America was founded in Chicago as the national organization for home economics students in the secondary schools, both public and private  California was the 35 th state to receive its charter  California renamed its association to FHA-HERO to unify students in both CFS and HERO programs.  Competitive Recognition Events were established  First male installed as President at the State level for the California Association.

 The Golden State Degree Program provides you the member the opportunity to achieve recognition for meeting established criteria for chapter, region, and state degrees. Each degree requires the member to demonstrate additional knowledge of and commitment to the organization.  Several scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors who are FHA-HERO members and who plan to pursue advanced studies or training in the field of Home Economics Careers and Technology and Related Occupations.
