Western Isles Maternal and Infant Nutrition (formally CEl 36 funding) Increase the uptake of Healthy Start. Achieve Baby Friendly Accreditation. Invest in specialist nutritional services. Support the delivery of existing programmes/fund training for front line staff involved in interventions with target groups. * Develop programmes that reduce health inequalities in the very early years of life.

Progress to date: Breastfeeding: - Working towards Baby Friendly Status for the Western Isles Hospital Maternity Unit. - Developing resources to support breast feeding for e.g.: Bosom Buddies. Training: - for all front line staff involved in Childhood Nutrition and pre and post natal mothers. - Certificate in Public Health and Nutrition completed in 2009/11 from Health Visitors, Health Promotion staff, Dietetics, and Early Years partnership. (42 now qualified). - REHIS Diploma – 4 accredited trainers 3 HPD/1 Freelance.

Progress to date: Parenting Western Isles: - New website set up 2009 (over 3,000 hits). Dietetics - HENRY Training. Senior Dietician trained. - Fund Vulnerable Families/parents groups – Action for Children Pointers Mums Group, Southern Isles Mums Groups Health Visitors – Drop in Service at Soft Play Group (Mulaidh) for families giving advice on nutrition/breastfeeding and weaning. Healthy Start- Pilot programme providing all children under 4yrs of age with the HS Vitamins. All pregnant woman receiving HS vitamin tablets.
