Training flexibly while meeting State requirements RTOs must work with the employer and the apprentice/trainee to ensure the appropriate training plan is put in place. The Spatial Information industry may well see significant benefit in the use of structured workplace-based training. Particularly as the host employer will have access to the current technology and data to make the learning and assessment both real and relevant RTOs must work with the employer and the apprentice/trainee to ensure the appropriate training plan is put in place. The Spatial Information industry may well see significant benefit in the use of structured workplace-based training. Particularly as the host employer will have access to the current technology and data to make the learning and assessment both real and relevant RTOs should, however, also be aware of any requirement placed by the State or Territory for the delivery of training in an on-the-job setting. Some States and Territories may, for example, require that the apprentice must be withdrawn from routine work duties for a specific number of hours per week. There may also be requirements for the type of training that should be delivered at this time. For example, the training may have to focus on the compliance and regulatory units and the units concentrating on generic skills.
