Cost for 1 complete kit: ~$23,000 Cost of the consumable supplies for a class of 40 students to run the ABE labs: ~$170 Additional associated costs: staff time, space, training & support costs (~$350 / class) About the ABE Kit Please respect the resources that are required to provide you with your kit

ABE Teacher Expectations & Program Policies Now Less money, More teachers, More students Increase our efficiency Maximize our resources Maintain a high-quality program

Each Teacher must sign and return the 2015 ABE Program Policy to your distribution center. If you are using the Fullerton College Distribution Center, you can sign it now and turn it in today.

Teacher Expectations 1.Be familiar with and follow all instructions in the ABE lab manuals, on the ABE website, and from their technicians, including instructions on safety and proper waste disposal. 2.Be considerate of the technicians’ time, the program’s resources, and other teachers/schools when reserving the kit and submitting their Materials Request Forms. Teacher Expectations

3. Communicate problems with the kit to their technicians. This includes noting and also telling their technicians about any broken equipment. 4. Respect the kit equipment. 5. Return the kit in the condition in which it was given. 6. Stick to the kit schedule. TTTeacher Expectations

Teacher Expectations 7. Respond promptly to communications from their technicians and the site director. 8. Provide data needed for grant reporting, as requested by their technicians or the site director. - Complete Data Collection survey! - Critically important for making sure we continue to obtain funding so we can keep the program running. Teacher Expectations

Teacher Expectations 9. Complete the lab results survey and submit it and their lab results to their technicians. -Important for quality control of supplies so everyone can get good results. 10. Use the kit checklist to ensure all equipment is present when received and before returning to their technicians. If anything is missing at pick-up, this will be communicated to the technician promptly. Teacher Expectations

1. New teachers need to be trained at an ABE workshop before they can sign-up for the Amgen kit. Teachers who have never attended a workshop but have been using the Amgen kit should also attend an ABE workshop. 2. When first beginning with the program, teachers will only be allowed to sign-up for labs they have been officially trained to do. Important Program Policies

3. Teachers who do not do all the labs they request materials for may be restricted in which labs they will be allowed to sign up for the following year. 4.We reserve the right to charge for broken or missing equipment. 5.Teachers must implement at least one official ABE lab when borrowing a kit. - Extension labs are NOT official ABE labs

Critically important for ensuring continued funding! Data is submitted to the national program office and the Amgen Foundation. Three types: 1.Class Data Collection Survey 2.Lab Results Survey 3.Workshop Surveys Class Data Collection

Complete immediately after you do the ABE labs -Online at ABE-LA.org EACH teacher needs to complete for him/herself only -Give numbers for yourself, not your school Read the questions carefully and answer them as accurately as possible -Ask your coordinator or Sherry if you do not understand a question. Class Data Collection

Class Data Collection Surveys -Basic info about you and your school -Are you a new ABE teacher? -Is your school new to ABE? -What materials did you get from us? -Full kit, partial kit, supplies only, lab 1 only -How many students did you teach ABE to? -How many classes did you teach ABE to? -How many types of courses did you teach ABE to? -Names of courses you taught & which labs you did with each of them -List labs in “other” if you didn’t complete a full series

Lab Results Survey Important for QC & for grant reporting. Complete immediately after you do the ABE labs -Online at ABE-LA.org -Contact coordinator if you have problems during the labs EACH teacher needs to complete for him/herself only Asks whether your students obtained the predicted results for each of the labs you did. Also save your results for your tech to view. -New question: did at least one of your student groups obtain the predicted results?
