Genesis 4:9

Cain is asked a question by God. Genesis 4:3-8 Cain answers with a question. His response: Genesis 4:9 This is a question we should ask ourselves.

1. As Commanded by Jesus: John 15:12,17 2. As taught by Paul: Romans 13:8, 1Th 4:9 3. As instructed by Peter: 1 Peter 1:22 4. As stressed by John: 1 John 3:11

1. Receive one another: Romans 15:7 2. Edify each other: Romans 14:19 3. Serve each other: Galatians 5:13 4. Bear one anothers burdens: Galatians 6: Forgive each other: Ephesians 4:32 6. Exhort one another: Hebrews 3: Consider one another: Hebrews 10: Be hospitable: I Peter 4:8-10

1. Exhort one another: Hebrews 3: Edify each other: Romans 14:19

parakaleo to call near, that is, invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation): - beseech, call for, (be of good) comfort, desire, (give) exhort (-ation), intreat, pray. Used both to encourage those who were faithful: Acts 11:20-24 And to encourage those who werent being faithful: 2 Thessalonians 3:11-12 Act 2:40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.

Instructions given to Timothy by letter: 2Ti 4:1-2 I charge thee in the sight of God, and of Christ Jesus, who shall judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. Something a bishop should do: Tit 1:7-9 For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled; holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers.

The Greek word using the same root, closely related: Rom 15:4-5 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope. Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus: The same exact word translated as comfort: 2Co 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Christians comforting/exhorting others: 2Co 7:6-7 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

oikodomeo From the same as G3619; to be a house builder, that is, construct or (figuratively) confirm: - (be in) build (-er, -ing, up), edify, embolden. We are seeking to build-up! And not tear down. Romans 14:19= Seek to build each other up! I Thessalonians 5:8-11= Encouraging is active! Ephesians 4:11-12= God has given us the tools to edify! 2 Corinthians 10:8 & 13:10= Word of God is meant to build up. Ephesians 4:29= Some things will not edify.

Romans 15:1-4 Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying. For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.

Words of God are needed: 2 Thess 2:14-17 & I Thess 4:18 Sincerity: Titus 2:6-7 Love of the brethren: I Thess 2:18-3:2 & Col. 4:8-9 Patients: I Thess 5:14 Understanding and love of the truth: Titus 1:9 & I Thess 2:8-12

Ultimate Goal of Exhorting/encouraging and edifying our brethren is so that we may all reach heaven: Hebrews 4:8-11 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience. Phillipians 3:13-17 Brethren, I count not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye are otherwise minded, this also shall God reveal unto you: only, whereunto we have attained, by that same rule let us walk. Brethren, be ye imitators together of me, and mark them that so walk even as ye have us for an example.

Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross You must believe in Him and repent of your sins Follow what the bible says to become His child being baptized, and live your life according to Gods will. You life will then glorify your God if you continue to live faithfully. You can live with your Father in heaven for eternity. Come study with us if you would like to learn more!
